Blog wasteland

I have been very absent from this blog. But! the real reason is that I've been spending all my time coding furiously. I'm not very good at documenting my progress or what I'm working on, and that was kinda the whole reason I wanted to start this thing up in the first place.

Google+ 1GAM
This was one of the many motivators behind my flurry of activity which I have been very grateful for. I've posted about this before so I won't go on at this time.

Part of this process was to try for 1 Game each month, which is a very lofty goal. I was pretty well on track to at least have a proof of concept for my February game. That was until I ran into major road-blocks with the server technology(uLink) I was using. I didn't really have time or technical prowess to dissect the issue and the support hasn't been able to give me a response that resolves my issue. I also am not a paying customer, and was only using the trial download(which has no limits, and actually never expires). Besides my mis-step I really believe in their software and company as a whole. I will absolutely support their software once I have a viable game that uses it.

This leads me to my next project which I would like to chronicle in a separate post to keep it clean. The codename for this project is "superRpg" just because I like the sound of that. Only a codename at this point because I'm not sure what it will end up being, and it makes it sound important and a sequel of something.

Sometimes I think I know what I'm doing and what my brain is up to, and other times I do not. But I feel like there is something in there worth squeezing out with every ounce of willpower I have.

The main thing that keeps me going though is everyone in my gaming g+ circle. I see you all creating amazing stuff, and it makes me want it even more.

Created Stuff #28

For this post I'm going to share what I've been working on for my next game project. I am co-developing a new game that is *untitled*. If everything goes well it will be a multiplayer space game. Our development time has been setting up the project and prototyping up to this point. The quick iteration that Unity provides is absolutely positive for our needs. One of the real pieces of magic is provided by Much Different and their networking product uLink. I've used uLink for testing before and it's been great so far for rapid development.

Here is a video showing the progress so far. In the center is the server running and showing two players connected. To each side is a client running that is connecting to the server and showing two players controller a separate ship. The green player is the one you have control over, while the red one is a ship controlled by another player.

Created Stuff #27

I started some new art assets for what I thought was a good reason, but it turned out to not really go the direction I thought it was going to.

Still very useful learning how to integrate them into my process, but ultimately will not use them for the current project. I'll be saving these guys for something else.

Created Stuff #26

Everyone... and I mean everyone needs a bear in a cave. That's just the way it is...

May have been inspired by +Matthew Inman possibly. Bear Love 4 Life!

Created Stuff #24 & #25

Double day catch up post. I've finally recovered from the Flu, so now it's GO TIME! Not only would I like to catch up on daily posts of stuff I'm doing, but also getting closer to finishing up my Jan #1GAM.

Wait a sec Brah, you can't cover two posts at once...

GUESS what... I can. Cuz that's how I roll.

I got some new ideas rolling around to finish up my flyingGnome game for submission. But here is what I would like to share.

 flyingGnome game builds:

Webplayer

Windows Standalone

OSX Standalone

Linux Standalone

Android

Clicky!

All powered by

If that wasn't good enough I'm also working on something that looks kinda like this.

That's all folks for now.

Created Stuff #23

Super under the weather yesterday and tody, so I don't have much to share. This is more of a catch up post + other stuff. I did some more work on my 3d model ship. Trying to decide if the blocky look it working or not. It's not hard surface modelling, so it's different looking. Any readers have any input on this either good or bad?

Quick render out of Blender showing the new additions. I've added four different spots for weapons. Two of those placed on the wings on either side, and two of them placed on the body in front.

Moving forward on finalizing my flyingGnome game with a parallax background.

I also read a really great article written by +Christer Kaitila on doing the #1GAM. I really like the advice of having "save points" where you could ship your game if you had to. Still trying to find my balance with content creation and learning C#.

Ahhhhh I see what you did there Blender.

Box model with a very low subdivision surface modifier. Blocky on purpose.

Now I'm kicking myself for not learning more about Blender.
